So, I decided to take a auto body class in the spring semester of 2002. The teacher is
great, the facilities are incredible. There are tools you could never justify buying, even for 2 or 3 resto projects |
I started stripping the fender
and found a really bad spot. It was rusted out and also someone tried brazing a patch, but did a crappy job. So, my instructor just happened to use my car as a example on how to use a plasma cutter. |
After bumping out dents
(hammer & dolly), We welded a patch. But, the key thing was to FIRST make a template out of cardboard, trim as many times as required. Then, cut the metal patch once with minimal trimming. |

Blended the patch with some
reinforced body filler. |
Pulled or bumped almost all the dents. Used
a spot weld type dent puller for dents inaccessible from behind. It looks like a big soldering iron. Its tip gets welded to the area. The intergrated slide hammer is then used to pull the dent. Then you twist off the tip. No holes or grinding required. THE BEST TOOL FOR BODYWORK, since sliced bread...
More Bondo abuse uncovered at door. More
bumping to be done. |
Cleaned and re-sealed door
pillar area. FINALLY got a chance to spray paint, actually primer. But it's progress... |
FINALLY!!! Primed...
